Like a hazily remembered dream, UK duo the KVB blend reverb-soaked shoegaze with minimalist electronic production to create their delicate and ephemeral sound. Formed in 2010 by Nicholas Wood and Kat Day, the KVB got started with a number of limited cassette and vinyl releases before their first full-length, Always Then, arrived in 2012. Two more albums, Immaterial Visions and Minus One, arrived the following year, Minus One being a proper release of material that had surfaced before in the form of digital downloads and extremely limited cassettes. In 2014, the duo ventured to Brian Jonestown Massacre mastermind Anton Newcombe’s Berlin studio to track what would become their Out of Body EP, released later that year on Newcombe’s own A Records label. This session would mark the KVB’s first recordings made outside of their own home studio as well as the first time they’d work with drummer Joe Dilworth, best known for his work with Stereolab. www.thekvb.co.uk
Formed in 1967 as an electronic rock duo featuring Dan Taylor on drums and Simeon on a homemade synthesizer consisting of 12 oscillators and an assortment of sound filters, telegraph keys, radio parts, lab gear and a variety of second hand electronic junk, the band quickly gained a reputation as New York’s leading underground musical expression. Their first album was released in 1968 on KAPP Records and it rode the Billboard Magazine Top 100 list for 10 weeks. The second full length album was released in 1969, titled CONTACT. A national tour was launched by the band’s recording popularity. A third album was recorded in 1970, but not released when KAPP folded. Without a record label the band disbanded. Since then numerous artists around the world have released covers, tributes and samplings of Silver Apples material. In 1996, Simeon re-activated Silver Apples, recording and performing with many musician friends and admirers. On March 10, 2005, original drummer, Danny Taylor, passed away of a heart attack. Working as a solo performer, with Danny’s drum sounds recreated by electronic means, Simeon has continued the Silver Apples live concerts with performances literally all over the world. Currently Simeon is still recording and performing as a solo. http://silverapples.com
Veering between krautrock edginess and bittersweet pop melancholia, droning medicated tones and noise driven no wave fuzz, The Oscillation recalls the kosmische musik of Neu! and Tangerine Dream interpreted with an eye on Pil’s dubbed out punk funk, Miles Davis’ experimentalism and Spacemen 3′s strung out blues rock. Beginning in 2008 as the solo project of Demian Castellanos, when DC Recordings released the debut “Out Of Phase”, The Oscillation quickly expanded into a formidable live force. The enlarged ensemble has featured numerous different musicians plus the live visual manipulations of film maker Julian Hand. In September 2013 The Oscilltion released their 3rd album ‘From Tomorrow’ which has won acclaim from all corners of the world.

2kilos &More is a french electronica duo from Paris created in 2003. So far they have released one mini-cd and three albums, as well as many other contributions on compilations, remixes or film soundtracks. Using samples and analog or digital sounds, 2kilos &More composes by improvising over long evolving sound waves. They shape every song like a journey through a sonic universe, playing with tension and surges punctuated by instrumental interventions (guitars or drums), often compared to the cinematic world of David Lynch. The press describes 2kilos &More as a subtle mix between Ambient-Electronica (à la Warp) and Post-Rock (Kranky) because of the constant and measured use of melodic (or sometimes noisy) guitars and acoustic instruments, bass, drums, sensula, blended with experimental influences.

Death Hawks has gained praise with their debut album Death and Decay, their intense live energy and strong songwriting. Heavy touring has made sure Death Hawks’ live gigs have grown even more fierce, showing the crowd what rock once was and what it will be. The Death Hawks’ new album is a blend of 70’s krautrock and psychedelia. A stream of consciousness where intoxicating shamanistic rhythm meets cool, minimal saxophone, raw guitar shredding and intriguing, elegant keyboard patterns. At the same time Death Hawks masters the very core of rock itself and the polar opposite of it. http://deathhawks.com

Thick guitars and bass, post-punk rhythms combined with the sound of old synthesisers and keyboards, oneiric, melancholy vocals and a variety of – not just musical – aesthetics. In a nutshell, this is what 3moonboys, a quintet from Bydgoszcz, sound like. The band, who have already made a name for themselves on the Polish alternative underground scene, keeps surprising the listeners and refuses to be pigeonholed. This was the case in 2004, when they released their debut album – one of the first indie-rock records in their home town. This was also the case two years ago, when they made their last album Skakankan: a combination of experimentation with arrangement and composition and a variety of references. 3moonboys’ records are thought-out from the very first chords to the unusual covers and literature-inspired lyrics which are open to interpretation. The band proves that the seemingly limited form of rock music may still be used to say a lot. Their next album is planned for the autumn of 2014. www.3moonboys.com
Przed Państwem Rara (which translates to: Ladies & gentlemen, here’s Rara) – or Rara for short – is the solo project of Rafał Skonieczny, which began after the suspension of Hotel Kosmos and WECK, two bands where he played the guitar and sang. After he moved to Gdańsk, he found the time to embark on lone voyages through acoustic spaces – made all the more comfortable by the fact they could be made at home. Especially an attic with a panorama of the Dolne Miasto chimneys. The artist uses an acoustic guitar made in Canada, for which he devised his own open tuning. He relies on intuition and chance, as he claims to have lost heart for arranging bars or the so-called composition. He played a few concerts in this formula and recorded studio material, which should be released on a physical medium until SpaceFest. He is not interested in fame or money. What he is interested in is the empty universe. www.facebook.com/raramoment
